SoCal Spring 2021 Categories

Following are the categories as well as the placement criteria for the spring 2021 season. We know the 2020 season was suspended after race #1 and that many riders either missed race #1 or had illness or mechanical issues that affected that race and that there’s a strong possibility additional riders would have qualified for different placements if multiple races occurred. We also know that most races outside the SoCal League were cancelled so there are few outside results to add to a placement petition. Due to these large irregularities, placements were created using limited data but the only data available. Because of this we expect many additional petitions this season and are willing to look at coach provided input on rider training as it may be the only data available OR the only additional data (in addition to the results from race #1).

Middle School Defined

“Middle School” applies to student-athletes in 6th, 7th and 8th grade in the Spring of 2021. 6th graders in “elementary school” may participate in middle school programming. 9th graders in a “middle school” or “junior high school” compete in the freshman category at the high school level.

Middle school philosophy in the SoCal League is that student-athletes in middle school, while they may race, should focus on fun and fitness and less on the placement related outcome of racing. Thus, while we do present awards in each category at each race, there is no team component to the scoring and there are no season long individual standings and thus no race call ups.
