Challenge Achievement Descriptions

“WHAT GOES UP”

Climbing can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.). In order to reach this goal, you will need to climb a total of 10,000 ft during the challenge.

“BECAUSE IT’S THERE”

Climbing can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.). In order to reach this goal, you will need to climb a total of 29,029 ft during the challenge.

“THE GRAND SLAM”

Climbing can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.). In order to reach this goal, you will need to climb a total of 70,000 ft during the challenge.

“OPERATION SKYFALL”

Climbing can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.). In order to reach this goal, you will need to climb a total of 163,680 ft during the challenge.

“MAJOR TOM”

Climbing can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.). In order to reach this goal, you will need to climb a total of 327,360 ft during the challenge.

“BASIN AND RANGE PROVINCE”

Distance can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.). In order to reach this goal, you will need to ride a total distance of 257 mi during the challenge.

“SURFIN’ SAFARI”

Distance can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.). In order to reach this goal, you will need to ride a total distance of 840 mi during the challenge.

“PLENTY IN THE TANK”

Distance can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.). In order to reach this goal, you will need to ride a total distance of 1500 mi during the challenge.

“FORD THE RIVER”

Distance can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.). In order to reach this goal, you will need to ride a total distance of 2170 mi during the challenge.

“THERE AND BACK AGAIN”

Distance can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.). In order to reach this goal, you will need to ride a total distance of 3558 mi during the challenge.

“SHAKA BRUH”

Vista challenges can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.) and a picture of the vista.Take a picture at view point overlooking a LAKE/OCEAN/RIVER.

“THE SUN GATE”

Vista challenges can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.) and a picture of the vista.Take a picture at viewpoint in a MOUNTAIN.

“LOOK FOR THE GREEN FLASH”

Vista challenges can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.) and a picture of the vista.Take a picture at at a viewpoint at SUNSET.

“LYCAN THE BIKE”

Vista challenges can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.) and a picture of the vista.Take a picture at viewpoint with the MOON.

“I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM”

Vista challenges can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.) and a picture of the vista.Take a picture eating ICE CREAM or FROYO after a ride.

“CAN YOU DIG IT?”

This challenge must be done with your squad (with permission of a land manager) or individually (with a recognized trail advocacy group). Complete a trail work day and take pictures.

“I’M THE APP FOR THAT”

Maintaining your bike is a great way to help ensure you’ll be able to complete your rides! Show your coach (or parent) you can conduct basic mechanical maintenance and fixes on your bike. More specific information coming soon!

“DIRT ZONE CARTOGRAPHER”

This challenge can be done with a squad or individually. If rides are done individually, the coach must have a way to track the effort (bike computer, Strava, TrainingPeaks, Apple Health, etc.). Ride at least three current or past SoCal League venues. You do not have to ride a course, just ride at a venue listed on the map HERE. Remember, veunue must be open when you ride it and only ride legal trails!

“P5

This challenge can be done individually or with a squad. If you complete it individually, you must show your coach your certification. Hold ANY active (meaning it’s not expired) Basic First Aid certification. This can be through Red Cross, Scouting, or some other First Aid certifying organization!

“COURSE DE LA VÉRITÉ”

This challenge must be done as a squad or individually (only if an independent rider NOT training with a team). Complete two time trials of between 1.5 and 3 miles at least two months apart on the same course. Many teams have a time trial course they use. Remember that if the trails are open to the public you MUST yield the right of way to horses and hikers and ALWAYS ride in control!

“WRMB”

In order to earn the WRMB achievement you will have to complete

– Climbing through “Because it’s there” (29,000 feet)

– Distance through “Surfin Safari” (840 miles)

– At least 4 @Vista stickers

– “Can you dig it” (trailwork)

– “I’m the app for that” (maintenance)

– “Dirt Zone cartographer” (ride 3 SoCal venues)

– “P5” (first aid)

– At least 2 @Easter Eggs


“THE COMPLETIONIST”

This achievement is awarded to only the most dedicated participants. To earn this achievement you must complete EVERY achievement. Yup, all 25 of them!
